Extended biography538 words

Prof. Dominik Boesl is a computer scientist, futurist, entrepreneur and keynote speaker. Fascinated by what technology makes possible, he is particularly interested in where those possibilities meet human aspirations: enriching people's lives and expanding their capacity to act. His work connects robotics and artificial intelligence with innovation management, technology ethics and the choices societies face as intelligent systems become part of everyday life. He draws on academic research and firsthand experience of leading technological development in industry.

Since October 2026, Boesl has worked at the Munich University of Digital Technologies & Applied Sciences (MUDT) in Munich, Germany. As Head of Department, he leads Digital Engineering & Physical AI, a department comprising several degree programs and professorships. He also holds the Chair of Applied Robotics & Intelligent Automation (ARIA) and serves as Founding Director of the Center for Robotics. Alongside these roles, he continues his work as an Adjunct Professor at the Technical University of Munich and leads Innomancer GmbH as CEO. From 2019 to September 2026, he held a professorship at Hochschule der Bayerischen Wirtschaft in Munich.

Boesl has held leadership responsibilities at Siemens, Microsoft, KUKA, Festo and Micropsi Industries. At Microsoft, these included nationwide responsibility in developer evangelism. At KUKA, he shaped innovation and technology management and built a new business as Vice President Consumer Driven Robotics. He subsequently led Festo's robotics business as Vice President & Head of Robotics. As interim CTO and Managing Director of Micropsi Industries, he helped advance its development from prototype to product. His career brings together the perspectives of major technology corporations and the challenges of a young AI and robotics company.

These experiences inform his Use Case Driven Robotics approach. Development begins with a concrete need, which guides the requirements for both the technology and its eventual operation. A system must prove reliable beyond a demonstration, fit into established processes and create a discernible benefit. Safety, responsibility and human agency therefore belong within the development process from the outset.

Boesl coined Robotic Governance and Generation R. Through his work with the Robotic & AI Governance Foundation, he examines the ethical, societal and regulatory implications of intelligent machines. Generation R describes people growing up as Robotic & AI Natives, for whom robotics and artificial intelligence are an ordinary part of life. His international expert work includes contributions to United Nations initiatives. He also serves as an IEEE TechEthics Ambassador and is the initiator and chair of Robotics 2050+, an international Delphi study on the future of robotics, automation and artificial intelligence.

Research and the communication of technological knowledge are closely connected in his work. He earned his Diplom in Computer Science with distinction from the University of Augsburg and an MBA awarded jointly by the University of Augsburg and the University of Pittsburgh. His teaching and educational projects explore how people develop the technical skills and judgment to use emerging technologies on their own terms.

His appearances at more than 1,600 events have reached over 300,000 audience members. In English- and German-language keynotes, workshops and discussions, he combines technical depth with vivid examples and humor. His techno-optimism accommodates a serious examination of limitations and risks. He encourages audiences to form informed views and take an active part in shaping technological change.
